IT Intern with IU Athletics
The Role
As an IT Technician Intern with Indiana University Athletics, I get to be the person coaches and staff call when something breaks right before they need it most. One day I'm setting up a new laptop for a coach, the next I'm tracking down why an entire office lost access to the shared drive. It's a lot more varied than I expected, and there's rarely a dull ticket.
What I've Learned
The technical fixes come pretty naturally at this point, the bigger skill has been learning how to talk to people who don't think about computers the way I do. Staying patient, asking the right questions, and figuring out the real problem behind "it's just not working" has taught me just as much as anything I've picked up about networking or device management.
What's Next
There's a chance I'll get to work some games next year, which would be a fun shift from help desk tickets to game-day tech. Either way, this internship has shown me that winning doesn't just happen on the field. It happens in the offices and on the back end too.
